Environmental Graphic Design, Branding, Creative Direction
next 22 was the Corcoran College of Art and Design’s annual senior showcase.
Branding for next22 emphasizes the collective sense of loss and emotion felt due to the time lost from the pandemic, as Amanda and I lost our sophomore year on campus due to the pandemic.
For this project, I worked closely with Amanda Bohn (@ambohnn) and Cory Bernat (@1goodpotato) and together we created the full Brand Guide for next22, pitched the branding to the Corcoran Director, Lauren Onkley, and spent 4 months implementing our design throughout the building for the opening night event.
We were able to produce all of the branding and visual graphics for the show by coordinating with vendors and hand-painting some of the deliverables.
To maintain a sense of care and keep next from feeling too inorganic or digital (something that we were adamant about avoiding), we decided to paint both “tombstones” (yes, those are the actual names of the exterior horizontal displays) by hand and paste imagery from the archives on paper with exterior glue. We also decided to paint the alcoves in the interior of the space, which have been ignored and painted over in past events. Altogether, we created a full brand guide, a logo, museum signage, an exterior banner, painted exterior tombstones, interior painted murals, maps, and programs for the event.
